The Sinhala and Tamil New Year or the ‘Aluth Avurudda’ is a great celebration across the island for both Sinhala Buddhists and Tamil Hindus in Sri Lanka. It is a celebration unique to our country and brings with it a season of holidays and happy festivities. Sri Lankans begin celebrating ‘Aluth Avurudu’ or ‘Puththandu’ as it is known to the Tamil community in the month of April when the Sun makes the move from Meena Rashiya (House of Pisces) to the Mesha Rashiya (House of Aries).
But it’s often limited to homes and with family. What happens at offices is usually only an Avurudu meal that is shared among everyone. Most companies don’t necessarily want to go through the hassle of all the organizing.
Here at Konekt, we aren’t boring IT crowd who sit and stare at computer screens all day. We love to have fun and we put in the celebration on a daily basis by the work we do.No matter how busy we are, we gather every morning or evening for a chat in our daily schedule.
Konekt team celebrated the Sinhalese and Tamil New Year after the auspicious dates, on the 17th of April 2019, by performing all ritualistic rites and customs; A makeshift hearth was prepared to boil the pot of milk to bring in good luck and blessings and a beautifully ladened Avurudu table filled with the traditional Avurudu meals and sweet treats brought in by each employee was feasted on with great delight. Our traditional Avurudu table was filled with delicious food items such as Milk Rice, Kevum, Kokis, Aasmi, Aluwa, Pani Walalu, Mung Kevum etc.
Performing all such activities as ‘one family’, the management and employees of Konekt proceeded on their journey with blessings and aspirations for a productive and prosperous year.
It was so hard to find a private place with a good view which was not too far away from Colombo with good food to satisfy everyone’s taste buds. After online searches, asking recommendations, checking reviews, calling friends and there, we finally had the place we wanted – Bolgoda Prawns Village.
The company staff had good fun and enjoyed every bit of it. From our very own Avurudu games to playing cricket to having lunch and eventually going in for the new year celebrations was truly an experience to remember. Balloon dance, Aliyata Aha Thabima, Biththara Alleema, Goni Panima and many more games were there. Our team had so much fun and enjoy every bit of that day.
At Konekt, we strike a balance between work and having fun and we also strive to keep things that way because our work ethic and culture has always been the secret behind the quality of work we produce and the smiling happy faces of our clients!
