A managed hosting partner takes responsibility for more of the environment, including configuration, monitoring, maintenance, incident response, and ongoing optimisation.

Before comparing plans, ask two questions:

  • What does the website or application need to do for the business?
  • Which technical responsibilities will the provider own, and which remain with us?

Moving to cloud infrastructure does not automatically make an application secure, fast, or highly available.

A genuine managed service should make responsibilities explicit. It should explain how the environment is monitored, how incidents are escalated, how updates are scheduled, how backups are tested, and what reporting the customer receives.

How to evaluate web hosting services in Sri Lanka

1. Start with the business impact

Classify the workload before comparing providers.

Ask what happens if the website is unavailable for fifteen minutes, two hours, or a full day. Consider lost sales, missed enquiries, interrupted operations, staff time, customer trust, and contractual obligations.
